Snowy peaks, wild rivers, famous national parks with natural wonders and wildlife from bison to bears and wolves.

These, along with the nostalgia of the Wild West of its residents, are the ingredients that make Wyoming attractive to its visitors. Klaus Scherer, ARD’s America correspondent and award-winning travel journalist for a long time, and his TV team join various protagonists, each of them on their way to overcome some challenges. Take guests from a prairie boy ranch, who will learn to ride horses and push cattle to their new prairie, all in two days. Or 10-year-old rodeo kid Kasin preparing to ride his young bull at Cody’s annual festival. In Yellowstone and Grand Teton National Parks, it’s young tour guide and photographer Tiffany Taxis who leads the TV crew to exciting geysers and colorful hot springs before introducing her own favorite viewpoints of the lake and the Mopoint. With only 600,000 inhabitants, Wyoming is the US state with the smallest population.

The highlight of Scherer’s travel documentary is a spontaneous invitation to a private Northern Arapaho pow wow party on the Wind River Indian Reservation. “We’re kind of proud of that,” says Scherer, “since all of this didn’t happen for tourists, or even for the cameras. We were the only strangers. You can’t get more authentic than that.”
