Synopsis
At the end of the 19th century, Barcelona addressed the growing problem of abandoned children and single mothers. The city's first hospital health complex based on modern criteria was created there. Promoted by the Diputació de Barcelona (Barcelona Provincial Council) and designed by architects in collaboration with doctors, the Maternitat complex was built following the new criteria of European hygienists, with large landscaped spaces and isolated pavilions that sought sunlight and fresh air. The complex, conceived as a city within a city. Opened to the public in 1995, today the complex, converted into the large park of the district of Les Corts, houses various public services. The documentary Torn de vida narrates the origins of the Maternitat complex in Barcelona through a fictional plot starring the actresses Carme Sansa and Myriam Moukhles.
