Synopsis
"You’ll be Glad to Know" presents a new approach to the popular expression "Leiria does not exist", which served as the theme for a first video released in 2025. This is a special day for the story's central figure, who uses the occasion to revisit habits, routines, and memories scattered across various corners of the city. In each location, he reveals his meticulous nature, making sure everything is exactly as it should be. But who is all this dedication for? I think “you’ll like to know”.
Objectives
The narrative begins with a figure sitting in his armchair while drinking tea. Two cups and two chairs occupy the space, but only one is filled, suggesting from the very first moment the absence of someone. The voice-over enters the scene, and we realize it belongs to the protagonist, who announces a special day while appearing to address someone with whom he shares a common past. This initial sequence aims to arouse the viewer's curiosity, leading them to question who the recipient of the message is and what the nature of the evoked relationship might be. From the second scene onward, the protagonist reveals his perfectionist side, carefully preparing different locations in the city of Leiria. This part of the narrative seeks, on one hand, to promote the region and, on the other, to establish symbolic references to the identity elements of the municipality. As the story progresses, the viewer's initial perception changes. What seemed to be an intimate ritual directed at someone from the past reveals itself to be a collective preparation, supported by several people who contribute to making sure everything is ready. The climax arrives with the visitors' arrival. We finally understand that all the dedication shown throughout the narrative was meant to prepare the city to welcome them. The protagonist personifies the collective and often invisible effort of local agents who contribute daily to making Leiria a welcoming destination. However, the final revelation is reserved for the closing shot. Looking directly at the camera and stating “and, as you can imagine, Leiria does not exist without you”, the central figure assigns the viewer the place that had remained empty since the beginning. The absence transforms into an invitation, and the message ceases to be just about the city, becoming also about the importance of those who visit it.
