Synopsis
In the shadows of Colombia’s Caribbean coast lies the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta: the Heart of the World, as named by its ancestral guardians. A Journey to the Heart of the World follows a group of travelers unknowingly immersed in sacred territory, uncovering the wisdom and resilience of Indigenous communities who have preserved their way of life against centuries of silence. With no set path, their journey unfolds through spontaneous encounters, ancestral rituals, and the raw beauty of the Sierra. As the travelers go deeper, the line between visitor and witness begins to blur. What begins as an adventure becomes a transformative experience and an invitation to protect what still beats at the heart of the world.
Objectives
This film was created to diversify Santa Marta’s tourism narrative by shifting the spotlight from beaches to the sacred territory of the Sierra Nevada and its Indigenous communities. It aims to foster respect and curiosity for ancestral knowledge, while promoting responsible intercultural encounters that support the preservation of both culture and ecosystem. Beyond showcasing a destination, the film seeks to educate and inspire visitors to become allies in conservation. By highlighting the role of Indigenous peoples as guardians of biodiversity, the project encourages sustainable tourism as a path to shared growth, mutual understanding, and long-term protection of this vital region.
