The audit recognises the festival’s strong regional integration, support for local suppliers, efficient use of venues, reuse of resources and progress in sustainable management
Terres Travel Festival – Films & Creativity has renewed the Sustainable Festival certification awarded by B Greenly for its 2026 edition. B Greenly specialises in sustainability certification for events and venues.
After reviewing the documentation and evidence submitted during the auditing process, B Greenly awarded the festival an overall score of 61%, corresponding to the BGSS Progress level. This result confirms that Terres has moved beyond isolated sustainability actions and has established a solid foundation of sustainable practices integrated into the organisation of the festival.
The assessment particularly highlights the festival’s balanced performance across the four main areas analysed: Infrastructure and Operations, with 60%; Management and Governance, with 64%; Environment and Society, with 62%; and Assessment and Improvement, with 55%.
A festival firmly rooted in its region
The festival’s integration with Tortosa and Terres de l’Ebre is one of the main strengths identified in the report. B Greenly highlights the use of local suppliers, collaboration with regional institutions and organisations, the involvement of local economic stakeholders and the use of the city’s cultural and heritage venues.
The audit also recognises the inclusion of local gastronomy and products in different activities, as well as the festival’s ability to retain a significant proportion of the social and economic value it generates within the region.
Terres achieved a score of 70% in the People and Community category, one of the highest results in the entire assessment. The report highlights activities open to local residents, collaboration with different regional stakeholders and a programme featuring numerous free events, helping to reduce financial barriers and encourage participation.
An efficient, low-impact operating model
B Greenly positively assesses the festival’s priority use of existing cultural, heritage, hospitality and urban infrastructure. This model limits the need for temporary structures, large-scale installations and new equipment, while reducing the material consumption associated with staging the event.
The concentration of venues within a compact urban area encourages walking between activities. The festival also provides information on public transport, cycling and other alternatives to private vehicles, while arranging collective transport for certain activities.
The report also recognises the reuse of production and communication materials from previous editions, the rental of technical equipment and other resources, and the digitalisation of a substantial proportion of the information provided to participants. Digitalisation is the highest-scoring area within the Management and Governance section, achieving 72%.
An increasingly structured approach to sustainability
The main development for the 2026 edition is the implementation of the 2026-2028 Sustainability Plan, which provides a framework for the festival’s actions and supports the transition from individual initiatives towards a more systematic management model.
The Plan establishes three successive stages: measure and organise in 2026, reduce in 2027 and consolidate in 2028. This planning framework, together with the allocation of specific sustainability responsibilities within the festival’s management team, helps explain why Management and Governance is the highest-scoring assessment block, at 64%.
B Greenly also highlights Terres’ ability to implement improvements based on the experiences and recommendations of previous editions, particularly in relation to reuse, mobility, digitalisation and planning.
Audiovisual storytelling as a tool for awareness
The report emphasises that the audiovisual nature of Terres Travel Festival makes it particularly well suited to raising awareness of issues concerning the environment, responsible tourism, sustainability and the relationship between communities and their territories.
The presence of these themes in the selected productions, professional activities and partnerships with different organisations strengthens the festival’s ability to promote new ways of engaging with landscapes, communities and tourism destinations.
Measuring performance to continue improving
The assessment indicates that the festival’s main challenge is not to introduce more initiatives, but to improve the measurement of the practices already in place. Its priorities for the coming years will therefore include establishing a consistent set of indicators, calculating its carbon footprint, collecting data on participant mobility, monitoring waste and quantifying the festival’s social, regional and economic impact.
This work will make it possible to compare results between editions, establish specific reduction targets and move progressively towards the next certification level, BGSS Performance.
The renewal of the BGSS Progress certification therefore confirms Terres Travel Festival’s commitment to a cultural model that is firmly rooted in its region and based on local sourcing, reuse, digitalisation, collaboration with local stakeholders and continuous improvement.
