Synopsis

Ukraine’s history is also Scandinavian history, as it was the Vikings who founded Kyiv. This was one of the starting points for Moesgaard’s exhibition “Rus – The Vikings in the East.” However, the exhibition has become highly controversial, as Putin has appropriated the narrative of the Vikings’ mighty Rus empire to argue that Ukraine has never existed, while his military systematically works to erase Ukrainian history and culture.
