Synopsis

15 April 2019, we are in shock... Notre-Dame de Paris is engulfed in flames, its framework burning and we watch helplessly as its famous spire falls. An unprecedented wave of generosity quickly followed the disaster, to rebuild one of the symbols of the City of Light. The day after the fire, Groupama, the third largest private landowner with 22,000 hectares of forest, decided to contribute to the collective effort through the wood industry and undertook to donate oak trees from its Forest of Conches in the Eure region. Between 160 and 180 years old, they will be used to rebuild Viollet-le-Duc’s framework and spire thanks to the restoration work undertaken by craftsmen and builders, some of whom came from very far away, using the original techniques. Groupama is very proud to have been able to contribute to the reconstruction of the framework and spire, by donating around thirty oak trees, the oldest of which come from the period when Viollet-le-Duc designed the spire.

Objectives

This film, about resilience and the long term, tells the story of the extraordinary mobilisation in which Groupama took part by supplying hundred-year-old oak trees from its forests in Normandy. True to its position as a major French forestry stakeholder, as well as its values of solidarity and mutual aid, and its DNA as a responsible insurer, the Groupama Group is resolutely committed to this approach. The challenge is humanistic, as part of a collective of benevolence and generosity. The symbolism is powerful, and the pride of having taken part in such a great cause is naturally there for all to see! In short, it’s a commitment that illustrates Groupama’s raison d’être: “We’re here to help as many people as possible build their lives with confidence. To achieve this, we are based on caring, close and responsible communities.”
