The Museu de Tortosa will host “The Adventures of Indiana Jones: Reality and Fiction”, an exhibition inviting visitors to explore the world of cinema’s most famous archaeologist and discover the connections between his adventures, travel, history and cultural heritage.
The exhibition will open on Saturday, 12 September 2026, at 5.30 pm, as part of the Terres Festival programme. The opening event will include a talk by Jaume Palau, writer, film-loving archaeologist and curator of the exhibition, who will reveal some of the elements that have made Indiana Jones one of popular culture’s most enduring icons.
During the session, Palau will examine the inspirations behind the character, the stories and legends that have shaped his adventures, and some of the natural and monumental settings used as filming locations throughout the franchise.
From film locations to tourism destinations
The talk will also take audiences on a journey to places such as Hawaii, Sri Lanka, Tunisia, Sicily and the Tabernas Desert in Almería—destinations that cinema has transformed into instantly recognisable landscapes for millions of viewers.
Drawing on these examples, the event will explore the phenomenon of film tourism and cinema’s ability to spark interest in particular places, transform fictional settings into tourism destinations and offer new ways of engaging with their history and heritage.
The exhibition also establishes a dialogue between reality and fiction, history and legend, paying particular attention to the relics, myths and historical events that have inspired the cinematic adventures of the celebrated archaeologist.
Admission to the opening event and talk is free of charge.
