Terres Travel Festival 2026 presents a screening devoted to art’s ability to interpret the world, preserve memory and reaffirm identity. The session will bring together two finalists from the Official Competition, in the Art, Culture and Music category, presenting two artistic journeys shaped by historical change, territory and borders.
The first film in the programme will be Dora Fugh Lee: A Life in Art (27’), directed by E. Samantha Cheng. The documentary retraces the life of Chinese artist Dora Fugh Lee, who was born into a noble family and was a direct descendant of Empress Xiaoxianchun.
Her life unfolded during one of the most turbulent periods in Chinese history, marked by the abdication of Emperor Puyi, the Japanese invasions, the Second World War and the Chinese Civil War. Amid these profound political and social changes, Dora Fugh Lee remained true to her identity and her art. Regarded as one of the last great representatives of Chinese literati painting, her story presents art as a form of resistance and personal expression.
The session will continue with On Melting Snow (73’), directed by Mojtaba Bahadori. The film explores the work of artist Sophie Cauvin, who has spent more than three decades travelling through landscapes transformed by time and by the political borders created by humankind.
Throughout her artistic journey, Cauvin gathers fragments of memory from a divided planet and brings them together in her creations. The documentary offers a reflection on the relationship between art and territory, as well as on art’s ability to reunite what history and geopolitics have separated.
Two different yet deeply connected perspectives that invite audiences to discover how art can preserve stories, cross borders and help us understand the world we inhabit.
