Synopsis
Echoes of Šolta is the cinematic face of the Šoltanka guided walk, a real heritage storytelling service on the island of Šolta. The film follows Marica, a woman from 1925, who unexpectedly steps into the present day. Guided by Klara, a young woman from today, she moves through the island’s lanes, fields and shoreline, encountering the people, customs, food, music and everyday moments that still carry Šolta’s identity. Through their meeting, the film gently connects past and present. Marica discovers that the island has changed in form, but not in spirit. The story does not present Šolta as a staged attraction, but as a living place shaped by memory, community and tradition. By blending fiction with documentary-like authenticity, Echoes of Šolta invites the viewer to experience the island through the same feeling that defines the guided walk: a slower, more personal encounter with local heritage, real people and a culture that is still alive.
Objectives
The goal of the film is to promote the Šoltanka guided walk as an authentic tourism service rooted in the island’s heritage. Instead of presenting Šolta only through landscapes, the film shows the emotional value of the experience: local stories, real people, inherited customs, music, food, costumes and places connected to memory. The film aims to position Šolta as a destination where tradition is not staged for visitors, but still lived by the community. It encourages viewers to experience the island more slowly and personally, through a guided encounter with its culture, people and sense of place.
