Synopsis
Foxes Safari Camps is a portfolio of seven camps and lodges within Western and Southern Tanzania. Katavi Wildlife Camp is one of only three camps within Katavi National Park, home to one of the largest densities of crocodile and hippo. Local tribes, the Pimbwe and Bende, who live within the park believe in the Spirit of Katabi, a prophet who is said to live on the edge of a great lake in Western Tanzania. It is believed that the Spirit has taken residence within a tamarind tree near Lake Katavi, and it is this magic that the park was named after. The short film follows the story of the Spirit of Katabi, simultaneously showcasing the ‘magic’ of the park through incredible wildlife sightings, the diverse landscapes, and the complete remote position of Katavi Wildlife Camp.
Objectives
The purpose of this short film is to showcase Katavi Wildlife Camp, Katavi National Park, and to promote Western Tanzania as a desirable safari destination. The production aims to capture how truly remote Katavi is, far from the crowds typical of a Tanzanian safari. It also highlights the large concentrations of hippo, crocodile, buffalo, and antelope found within the park, one of its unique selling points. It showcases the tented camp, overlooking the vast Katisunga Plains and river where wildlife can be viewed from one’s private verandah. The production reveals the unique cultural history and traditions of the different tribes in the area, and reveals the ‘magic’ of the park, making Katavi more than its wildlife.
